Public to Weigh In on Santa Rosa Downtown

The city of Santa Rosa is kicking off an aggressive push to gather public input on sweeping changes planned for the city’s downtown core.

Starting May 1st, city officials will host a series of public workshops, at which local residents will be encouraged to share their thoughts and vision for how Santa Rosa’s downtown should change.

The public comment push comes amid a huge rewriting of the city’s Downtown Specific Plan, which since its adoption in 2007 has fallen well short of goals to bring housing, people, jobs and commercial businesses to the downtown core.

The first session will kick off at 5PM on Wednesday May 1st at the Central Library Downtown. A second workshop will follow on Saturday May 4th beginning at 9AM at the Chop’s Teen Club. City officials are also planning booths at the Wednesday Night Market, the Cinco de Mayo celebration, and other pop up locations. Residents can also provide input online at www.plandowntownsr.com

Santa Rosa Planning and Economic Development Director David Guhin is leading the charge to get the public engaged, in what will be a generational change to Santa Rosa’s 650 acre downtown core.
