Power Shutoffs to Hit North Bay at 7AM
PG&E announced Tuesday evening that they would shut off power to around 40 thousand customers, or approximately 140 thousand North Bay residents, beginning at 7AM Wednesday morning.
The utility says strong winds across the region are anticipated by 10AM, and shutoffs are planned in the three hours prior to that. Planned shutoffs were scaled back on Tuesday evening, and will now impact some 19 thousand customers in Sonoma County, 12 thousand in Lake County, and less than 1 thousand in Mendocino County. According to PG&E, the shutoffs will affect some 4800 customers in Santa Rosa, or about 15 thousand residents.
Due to changing conditions including higher humidity levels, planned shutoffs were cancelled earlier in the day across five counties in the Bay Area.
PG&E delayed announcing the timing of the shutoffs as they scaled down the magnitude of the event during the day Tuesday due to improving wind and humidity forecasts.
As the day progressed, an earlier estimate of 303 thousand customers impacted by the PG&E blackouts was revised downward to 181 thousand customers, or about 600 thousand California residents across the PG&E service area. Those numbers continued to fall through Thursday evening.

Depending on weather conditions, PG&E says they will inspect lines and start restoring power to customers impacted by the shutoffs at 8AM on Thursday, and hope to have power back to all customers by late on Thursday.
