Norcal Bypassed as Ferocious Storm Pounds Southland

An unusually strong and cold storm system continued to wreak havoc across Southern California on Thursday, dropping multiple feet of snow and causing flooding in some areas.

The weather system skirted Northern California as it dropped south along the coast, and then intensified before swinging inland over Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego.

You can see the storm beginning to pass out of the area Thursday.

The storm dropped anywhere from 1.5 to 4+ inches of rain in the Los Angeles area and other parts of Southern California, and more than 2 feet of snow were being reported in the San Gabriel mountains.

In addition, I-5 over the Grapevine was still closed in the early afternoon on Thursday after being shut down late on Christmas Day due to snow and stranded drivers. I-15 linking Los Angeles and Las Vegas was also closed at times.

Meanwhile, weather forecasters were watching another storm that is expected to arrive in California on Saturday and may also drop down along the coast, threatening to bring additional rain and snow to soggy Southern California by late Sunday, or early on Monday.
