Monday Soaking, Then Hottest Temperatures of the Year

Our exciting, wet winter is sending us one last shot of storminess on Monday, a disturbance that will arrive in the afternoon as a nice soaking rain before quickly clearing out of the North Bay by early Tuesday.

After that, strong high pressure will warm us up quickly and by Thursday we should see the first 90s of the year across parts of Sonoma County.

Here’s the satellite view on Monday, showing the incoming system bearing down on Central California.

This will be a cool, rather wet storm for April, with around a half inch of rain forecast for Sonoma County.  The wettest model shows up to an inch of rain in the North Bay for Monday into Tuesday.

After the showers clear out…summer arrives big time.  Tuesday will be a transition day before a major heat up begins, with upper 70s and 80s Wednesday, and some readings across the North Bay likely approaching or breaking 90 on Thursday.  The hottest weather of the year so far.  After that, highs should return to the 70s by next weekend, and stay that way for at least a week with a high pressure ridge firmly in charge.

And long term trends show California may stay a bit warmer than average through the middle of May.

After Monday’s soaking, will we be getting more rain before summer sets in?  There are hints of showers returning for a time in May, but for now, no measurable rain events are on the horizon.
