Minor Flooding with Frontal Passage

The big atmospheric river storm passed through Sonoma County and the North Bay Wednesday night, as expected bringing high winds, heavy rain and minor flooding. Here is the front on satellite as it passed through just before 8PM.

Current rainfall totals range from 1.5 to 4.5 inches across the North Bay, with reports of winds in excess of 50 miles per hour in the hills. A flash flood warning was issued in the evening for areas around Sonoma Creek and the Nuns burn scar, as minor flooding was reported in the Sonoma Valley, including in Glen Ellen, Sonoma and other areas.

Other problems included scattered power outages from downed lines in a few locations, as well as road closures from minor urban and small stream flooding. Here is the radar loop as the front passed through.

The Russian, Napa and Petaluma Rivers were expected to remain below flood stage. The Napa River is forecast to crest early Thursday several feet below flood stage, while the Russian should peak in Guerneville just short of 29 feet on Thursday afternoon. Flood stage in that stretch of the Russian is 32 feet.

Heavy rain showers will continue through Thursday morning, before settling down later in the day.
