MARCH GOES OUT LIKE A LION
March is poised to go out like a lion across Northern California, with quite a bit of rain inbound to the North Bay region.
You can see the first storm ramping up, a beautiful spiral off the Pacific Northwest coast.
It looks impressive, but the cold front is weakening as it reaches California and runs up against departing high pressure. So our rain and showers won’t be all that impressive. We’ll have showers from late Wednesday into early Friday, but most of the action will take place to our north with this first storm.
Expect about a quarter to half inch of rain by Saturday. Amounts will drop off rapidly to the south of Santa Rosa.
It gets more interesting on Sunday. That’s when a potentially stronger storm arrives. The jet stream steering winds will be more zonal, straight into California.
And low pressure will dive south into the state.
Bringing a good chance of a significant (for late March) storm into Northern California by late on Sunday the 30th..
Here’s an outlook for Monday the 31st. Pretty rainy.
How much rain? Depends on who you ask. I’d go with generally 1.5 to 2 inches across the North Bay region.
The European model is a bit drier, while the National Blend of Models is wetter. These are rainfall amounts from Sunday the 30th through Wednesday the 2nd. (they include the small storm this Thursday-Friday)
As you can see, a lot more rain will fall in the mountains and to our north.
We should dry out from the 2nd to Sunday April 6th, with another weak storm possible then. So in general a pretty wet period for late March and early April.
More updates to come.
