Kincade Contained, Fire Danger Continues

Even as Cal Fire reported Wednesday that the Kincade fire was fully contained, regional fire agencies continue to caution that the dangers of an extreme fire season in the North Bay will continue until significant rain arrives.

The interagency fire center has placed all of the North Bay and Bay Area at an above normal risk of wildfire through November, due to the delayed arrival of fall rains, and the critically dry fuel moisture levels which in some places is near record lows.

As for the Kincade fire, as of Thursday less than 100 firefighters were still assigned to watch for hotspots, a dramatic drop from the more than 4500 personnel drawn from Cal Fire and 506 regional agencies that battled the blaze at its height.

Although a light offshore wind event may arrive early next week, no significant wind events are in the forecast for the next two weeks at this time. Still, Cal Fire as well as local and regional fire agencies are telling the public to be extra careful when operating equipment and driving off of paved roads, due to the danger of dry grass catching fire due to extra low fuel moisture levels throughout Northern California.
