JULY 4TH HOLIDAY PREVIEW. COOL DOWN ON TAP, NO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER FORESEEN.

The North Bay and Northern California can expect a tranquil week ahead with a notable cool down from Wednesday through the July 4th Holiday, and no fire weather concerns to note.
On Monday, the satellite picture revealed fog hugging the entire California coastline, with a tropical system weakening off the Baja coast. (Image 1)  At one time it appeared that tropical storm Celia might send moisture into California, but now it appears unlikely.
By Wednesday its moisture will be lurking off the SoCal coast, but will be drawn towards Hawaii. (Image 2)
By Wednesday, our high pressure ridge will be flattened by a developing trough of low pressure over the Eastern Pacific. By the weekend this feature will deepen and is expected to be directly over Northern California by the 4th. (Image 3)
What this will do is cause temperatures to fall below normal, beginning a downward trend by Thursday, with temperatures getting cooler through the 4th across the entire West, (Image 4) and here in the North Bay. (Image 5)
We’re talking about high temperatures 5-10 degrees below normal by the 4th. (Image 6)
One thing the trough will do is deepen the coastal stratus deck, bringing continued cool weather along the immediate coast, with cool sea breezes pushing well inland at night.
What about rain? Sadly (from a fuel moisture perspective), it looks like an wetting showers will stay north and east of us. (Image 7) But we’ll be cool and at this point it appears fire weather concerns will be minimal.
And, further out, the 30 day ensemble temperature outlook for California is cool, especially across Northern California. (Image 8) No hints of a big heat up. And that’s good news we’ll gladly take.
