Hot Wednesday, then Heat Returns for Weekend

After Tuesday temperatures ranging from 91 to 96 in Santa Rosa, Windsor and Healdsburg, we should see a carbon copy again Wednesday with hot temperatures away from the coast and a sea breeze keeping coastal areas cool.

In the satellite view of the West Coast only a shallow marine layer appears along the coast of California. But to our north, the next low pressure trough is already approaching.

That trough will cool us down by about 10 to 15 degrees tomorrow across inland areas, and just a bit along the coast. Expect highs on Thursday in the upper 70s to near 80 inland, and in the 60s in places like Bodega Bay.

The cool down will last through Friday before the low pressure trough slides east, allowing high pressure to nudge into Northern California once again.

You can see the trough move through tomorrow and Friday, and high pressure return for the weekend.

What does that mean for the weekend? A big heat up once again. Forecasts call for temperatures to hit the 90s once again across inland areas of Sonoma and Marin Counties, perhaps approaching 100 degrees in the hottest locations.

And the coast will be heating up as well. Unlike the past two days when a sea breeze moderated temperatures near the ocean, offshore winds should develop Saturday through Monday bringing coastal temperatures into the 70s. And those winds may kick up at times in the hills, drying out grasses and possibly bringing the first true fire weather of the season.

Luckily, by midweek, temperatures and winds should moderate back to seasonal levels across the North Bay.
