Holiday Outlook Looking Cool, Mostly Dry

Everyone hoping for warm weather for the first major holiday of the summer, will be disappointed. A pair of cool, showery weather systems will drop down from the north through Sunday, leaving the North Bay up to 20 degrees cooler than normal. However, with a bit of luck, we may stay dry.

Here’s how it looks on satellite, with the first disturbance headed south from the Pacific Northwest.

That first weather system will stay to our east, but the cool air that arrives means our temperatures will remain well below normal on Saturday as the Holiday Weekend begins.

On Friday, the marine layer extended well inland, keeping the North Bay cool and cloudy. This image shows it well.

For the Holiday Weekend, look for cool temperatures in the 60s to near 70 on Saturday, then cooling to the mid 60s Sunday as a 2nd cool low pressure system drops down the coast. We may pick up some showers, but current models show most of those staying to our south, and east.

If you’re headed to Tahoe or anywhere in the Sierra for the holiday, you will probably get wet, with snow possible Sunday over Donner Pass and even a few flakes at Tahoe.

Here’s where the models show the rain will fall.

On Memorial Day, skies will begin to clear as the low center moves to the south and east, and our temperatures bounce back up to near 70. Not exactly warm, but not bad either. And the rest of the week should bring us a slow warming trend with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.

Longer range, it looks to stay showery across Northern California through next week at least, before high pressure finally kicks in, giving us near normal temperatures and plenty of sunshine for the first week of June.
