HEAT, THEN COOLING, THEN MORE HEAT FOR THE NORTH BAY
A high pressure ridge will build back into California from the Southwest over the next two days, bringing hot temperatures once again to the North Bay and all of Northern California (except the immediate coast). The NWS has issued a heat advisory for much of the North Bay through Friday night.
Our temperatures will rise and fall as this high pressure ridge wobbles and is weakened at times by a low pressure trough to the north. You can see it all on this upper level pressure forecast from the European ensemble model.
The setup is a pretty classic blocking pattern, with high pressure stuck over the West and out over the Atlantic Ocean and a lower pressure trough in between. The NWS has picked up on this pattern, predicting hotter than normal temperatures over the next 6-10 days.
The hottest days will be Thursday and especially Friday of this week, when temperatures once again climb up to and over the 100 degree mark in many parts of the inland North Bay.
Inland highs both Thursday will be 90-100, and Friday 95-107. Along the coast 60s-70s will prevail.
As the push and pull between high and low pressure continues, we’ll cool down to 80-95 degrees this weekend, only to have hotter temperatures return Monday through around Wednesday of next week. Below are the forecast highs for Tuesday from the GFS model. Once again 90-107 for the inland North Bay.
By the end of next week a low pressure trough may swing through California and help break the heat.
We’ll keep you updated.
