Habitat Sonoma County Ready to Christen New Home
Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County is moving into a new home in Rohnert Park, and plans a party tomorrow to mark the occasion.
The 33 thousand square foot space is located in the SOMO Village in Rohnert Park, and was leased recently following a months-long search by Habitat staff for a new, larger location for its operations center and offices.
The big new facility will not only house Habitat’s offices, but will include space for a prefab factory that will manufacture panels for the construction of homes. In addition, starting in August, the location will host hands-on classes for Santa Rosa Junior College construction students.
On Thursday, Habitat staff were readying the Center for the arrival of 60 graduates from a construction skills boot camp, students who recently completed a two week intensive course in the construction trade. That project was a collaboration with the North Coast Builders Exchange.
Habitat for Humanity staff say the new facility will allow the organization to partner with Santa Rosa Junior College and others to train future construction trades people, who are badly needed to help rebuild homes in the North Bay.
