Finally, Rain in the Extended Forecast!
After weeks of record dryness, the persistent high pressure ridge that has kept Northern California dry is at last showing signs of breaking down. That means rain is once again in the extended forecast across the North Bay.
It could not come too soon. As of February 21st, Sonoma County has seen just over 2 inches of rain since January 1st. Record dryness. The same period last year brought us between 17-20 inches!
Right now a cutoff low is poised to bring rain to Southern California later today and Saturday.
As for Northern California, you can see the pattern change happen as March begins, and low pressure systems (blue) finally reach California.
The forecast models agree that things will be getting wetter across Northern California. When and how much? They forecast the first rain perhaps next weekend, and more the first week of March.
Over the next two weeks, significant rain is forecast to fall across the state.
It is too early to say whether this change will qualify as a “Miracle March”. Early indications are that cooler and more showery conditions will ramp up through the middle of the month, perhaps longer.
We’ll keep you up to date as the forecast evolves.
