Dog Attack Victim Appeals to City Council

A Santa Rosa artist attacked and severely injured by a Pit Bull earlier this month took her appeal for action to the Santa Rosa City Council Tuesday night.

Carolyn Teel was attacked while walking near Montgomery High School, along a path that borders a long-time homeless camp.  The dog that attacked her is owned by a resident of the camp, and has since been quarantined by animal control officers.

On Tuesday she told councilmembers that she was bitten more than 20 times, and will be dealing with the physical injuries she suffered for months or even years.  She also said the attacking dog had been re-released back to the owners, after another similar attack in the past.

She appealed to the council to take action to get dangerous animals off the street, and said that had she been a child, or elderly person, she would have died.

Also calling for action at the meeting was Lisa Landrus, who witnessed another vicious dog attack on Yulupa Avenue on November 11th.  Landrus says her efforts to get action were thwarted by city and county officials, who she said were unclear about who had responsibility for dealing with dangerous animals.
