Dallas Flights Begin at STS
Charles Schulz Sonoma County Airport added another major destination to its route map today, with the launch of American Airlines service to the Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport.
The long awaited nonstop flight ties Sonoma County passengers into not just the 4th busiest airport in the country, but also the domestic and international route system of the world’s largest air carrier.
In the past few years Sonoma County has rapidly added service to about a dozen destinations, and is now one of the fastest growing small airports in the country.
American has operated daily flights to Phoenix for more than a year, and added more flights to Southern California last month.
All this comes as Sonoma County Airport prepares to embark on a major expansion, with work to add gate space planned to start in September, and a 2 year construction phase that will triple the airport’s size due to kickoff in January of next year.
Airport Manager Jon Stout told News of the North Bay that Dallas is a top ten tourist destination for Sonoma County, and although seasonal now, the Dallas flight could become permanent if enough passengers use the service.
