COOL TODAY, SHOWERS NORTH. POTENTIALLY QUITE HOT TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY.
A cold low pressure system dropping south off the coast will keep California cool on Friday and Saturday. The deep low is clearly visible on satellite. (Image 1) The low is unusually cold for this time of year. (Image 2)
Highs today will be in the high 60s and 70s. (Image 3)
By Tuesday and Wednesday, high pressure will build back in big time, potentially bringing temperatures 20 degrees above normal (Image 4), into the low 100s inland. (Image 5) This is the European model. The GFS is similar. But a few others are cooler, like the National Blend of Models and some ensemble forecasts…mainly in the 90s inland. (Image 6).
Overall, the hottest forecasts for Tuesday and Wednesday may be a bit overblown. Still, worth monitoring for potential heat impacts both days. We’ll keep you up-to-date.
By later in the coming week, low pressure to our north will cool us back down to the normal range. (Image 7)
