Cal Fire Detailed Perimeter Maps Show Walbridge Fire Boundaries
Late on Friday and updated early Saturday, Cal Fire released its first detailed perimeter maps for the Walbridge Fire.
We have broken the maps into two parts, the north and south sections, which show the extent of the fire as late on Friday.
Fire growth was high on the northeast boundary through Friday in the Chemise Road and Big Ridge Areas where aerial tankers worked until sundown and are returning today.
On the southern edge, the fire mainly advanced along the ridge above Guerneville, Hacienda, and Rio Nido. Water drops and dozer lines were helping to slow the spread south and east here. In other areas the fire pushed out its boundaries, but more slowly. The fire remains north of Guerneville along ridges and has not (as of late Friday) entered into the lower area of Armstrong Woods (we were there late Friday).
The fire is expected to move differently today, with winds turning from west or northwest to southwest. This will in some cases help keep the fire from advancing on certain perimeters while helping it advance on others.
Growth is once again expected, now with southwest winds, along the eastern and especially northeastern perimeters in the Chemise Road, Big Ridge and Lake Sonoma quadrants.
Also attached here is the fire perimeter map produced by Sonoma Water. Though not an official fire map, it helps to show, based upon satellite imaging, where the fire is, and where the latest advances have been (red).
