Big Rain Arrives Wednesday Night
After more than a week of showery storms dropping light rain here and there, all eyes are on a system set to arrive late Wednesday that will pack a mid-winter punch. This storm will continue into Thursday and should give us significant rain.
Here is the satellite view Monday, with two storms inbound, the first weak one arriving late today.
The storm tonight will only bring us a smattering of rain, much like the recent ones. Here are the projected totals into Tuesday.
Really just enough to keep things wet. But looking to later in the week, everything will change as a strong storm arrives with heavy rain at times, cold temperatures, and snow above 3500 feet. Here is the European Model forecast for the storm’s passage Wednesday night and Thursday.
And our expected rain amounts.
Pretty healthy. Generally about an inch for the North Bay, with areas in the hills getting up to 2 inches or so.
And, with MLK weekend coming up, how about snow in the Sierra? The ski resorts will be picking up about 18 inches to 2 feet of fresh snow before the storm winds down on Friday.
After Friday, a ridge of high pressure will build in over the West Coast, keeping us dry for awhile. In fact the dry period may last through the end of the month. A few weak storms may bring showers at times, but nothing significant after Thursday’s storm is in the forecast for now.
The outlook for rain through the end of the month shows below normal for the West Coast.
If you’re looking for a bit of good news though, the long range outlook hints at rain returning in the first week of February.
So, enjoy Thursday’s rainy weather, and stay tuned for updates from NNB!
