Artist’s Work to Adorn Los Guilicos Village

As 60 formerly homeless trail camp residents arrive at the Los Guilicos Village in the coming days, their new temporary shelters will feel a bit more like home thanks to the work of a Sonoma County artist.

Creative Sonoma, a division of the Sonoma County Economic Development Board, has commissioned dozens of original artworks that will grace the doors of the pallet shelters that have been erected on-site.

The art is intended not only to make each small home easier to identify, but also to soften and personalize the space for the village’s newly arrived residents.

Artist Kristen Throop created two by two foot art panels for each pallet shelter at the site, most depicting a home drawn from the natural world.

The artist and the director of Creative Sonoma say that while the art will serve a practical purpose by helping new residents navigate the village, it will also bring beauty and a sense of calm.
