A TALE OF THREE STORMS
A trio of storm systems will impact the North Bay between now and the New Year, with rainfall amounts adding up to two to three inches over the 4 day period. For now New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day look mostly dry.
Storms continue to be lined up in the North Pacific, carried along to the West Coast on a strong zonal jet stream. We’re on the southern edge of the action.
We’ll have two storms arrive in quick succession early Friday and then again late Friday. For rainfall totals we’ll lump them together.
Total North Bay rainfall through late Saturday may be over an inch, with two or more inches possible in the hills.
A third and final storm in the series arrives early Sunday. This one may dig further south and give us another inch of rain with the moisture reaching the Central Coast.
So, over the 4 day period through Monday the 30th we can expect around 2 inches of rain in the valleys of the North Bay and 4 inches or more possible in the hills.
Beginning Monday high pressure will build back in over the West Coast for a few days at least.
Most models keep us dry through the first week of January, with the European hinting at a storm around the 9th. But there is no model agreement yet on this return of rain. Overall, the first week of January looks very dry for California with the storm track shifting north into Washington and British Columbia.
We’ll have more updates as the forecast evolves.
