Sonoma County Coronavirus Curve Steepens, Expected Development Say Experts

On Thursday, Sonoma County saw its largest one-day increase in coronavirus cases, going from 34 active cases to 43, an increase of 9 cases in a single day.  The number of deaths remained 1, and recovered patients were listed as 5.

However health officials say that this increase of cases was an expected development, due to ramped up testing, and the release of a backlog of results from the past few weeks.

According to epidemiologists, the positive test results reflect infections that occurred in the past several weeks, and do not represent current conditions, or the impact of shelter-in-place orders that went into force in Sonoma County and elsewhere in California more than a week ago.

Across the state of California the number of positive tests is also on the rise.  Again, say experts, this represents infections that were taking place over the past few weeks, and also the result of increased testing revealing more positive cases in the community.  As of early Friday, the number of coronavirus cases in California had reached 4203, with 85 deaths.
