Pride in the Park Draws Hundreds

The Sonoma County Pride Festival wrapped up a busy weekend in Santa Rosa, with a family picnic attended by hundreds in Julliard Park, and a wine event at adjacent Astro Motel.

The festival returned to Santa Rosa for a second year, after a decade in Guerneville.  By all accounts turnout was up this year, with more than 50 entries for Saturday’s parade and an attendance near 5 thousand for the festival at Courthouse Square.

The so called Pride in the Park event featured food, entertainment and an atmosphere designed to attract families to picnic and spend a fun day out in the sun.

Organized by the non-profit organization Sonoma County Pride, the annual weekend of celebration for Sonoma County’s  lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex community, collectively known as LGBTQI has a long history in the North Bay, and the pride parade has been ongoing for more than 30 years.

Leaders of Sonoma County Pride say the recognition and assistance provided by the City of Santa Rosa and Sonoma County has helped the event take off, and become a signature event for the LGBTQI community in the North Bay.
