New Fire District Showcased at Resiliency Day

A year and a half after the October firestorms, a community came together this weekend to celebrate moving forward.

The Luther Burbank Center was host to the first Community Resiliency Day, which featured food, fun things to do, and demonstrations by the region’s first responders.

A big part of the event was a chance to showcase the newly created Sonoma County Fire District, which combines fire operations from Bennett Valley, the Mountain district, Rincon Valley and Windsor.

Sonoma County formed the new district in part to make fire response more efficient, cost effective, and responsive in times of disaster.  The district recently hired 18 new firefighters, which Supervisor James Gore and Fire District Chief Mark Heine say will increase the regional capability to respond in times of crisis.
