Next Stormy Blast Headed In

Our first round of late March rain blew through Sunday night and Monday, dropping anywhere from a quarter to one and a half inches of rain across Sonoma County.

If you’re keeping track, that put Santa Rosa at about 41 inches for the rainy season thus far…that’s 10 inches more than average for the date, and 20 inches more than last season!

Meanwhile, the next storm due to arrive Tuesday night is headed in.  The rain will arrive late Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday morning.  Then another round of showers will arrive early Thursday.  Check out the center of low pressure spinning a few hundred miles to our west.

This storm has more moisture to work with, as you can see in the forecast of moisture flow along the California coast.  The biggest push will be along the central coast, but we will see quite a bit.

And that will translate into a nice sized storm…generally one half to two additional inches across Sonoma County by Friday.  You can see about an inch in Santa Rosa.  Also, check out the Sierra.  If you’re a skier, look for one to two feet of additional snow to fall at the ski resort level by Friday.

How about the end of March, into the first week of April?  Well, signs are a bit mixed, but forecast models are hinting at showers continuing after nice weather this coming weekend.  In fact, the weekend of April 6th may be stormy, and the rainfall forecast is looking like off and on stormy weather could continue into early April.  Hmm…..

Hang in there.  Warm and dry weather WILL eventually arrive.  It just may take a while this spring.
