More Storms Headed to North Bay

The weekend storms that delivered a drenching 2 to 5 inches of rain across the North Bay are headed east, but more storms are due this week.

The first will arrive tomorrow, spreading rain across Sonoma County and the rest of the North Bay from just before noon Tuesday, off and on through midday on Wednesday.  You can see Tuesday’s storm gathering strength in the Pacific to our west.

There will actually be two storms impacting the North Bay this week. Here’s how forecast models think the incoming storms will look, the first on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the second arriving on Friday.

As you can see, the Friday storm may be drawn more to our south, limiting the amount of rain we get.  But Southern California will receive some needed rain.

So, how much rain can we expect through the week?  Well, we should rack up an additional 2 to 3 inches by the end of the week, as this graphic shows. Most of that should fall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

And, what about after Friday? Well, two of the main weather models both hint at a storm arriving sometime late on Saturday or early Sunday, and another, quite wet system on Wednesday and Thursday, the 16th and 17th.  A forecast that far out is typically not very reliable.

But, for now, here’s what one of the models shows beginning this coming Sunday.

As you can see, those storms for next Sunday and Wednesday are forecast to be pushed more to the south by a split jet stream.  In any case, we can expect an active next week to week and a half.  After that high pressure is forecast to end the rainy spell as we go into the last week of January.
